Tata Punch EV launched, Expected price, features and Range

The Tata Punch EV, Tata Motors’ first new model for 2024, is the brand’s fourth all-electric automobile and second electric SUV. Bookings for the new Punch EV are now available and may be made for Rs 21,000 from Tata’s new EV-only shops, select conventional dealerships, and through the company’s internet portal. This is also Tata’s first vehicle based on the Gen 2 EV architecture, or acti.ev.

Tata Punch EV Exterior

This is our first real look at the Punch EV, and the redesigned grille and bumper design are clearly inspired by the new Nexon EV. In essence, it appears to be a cheaper version of Nexon EV.

The front of the bonnet has a full-width light bar and a split headlight system, with the primary headlamp cluster looking very similar to the Nexon EV. This is also the first Tata EV with a charging port in the front. The bottom bumper has also been entirely redesigned, with new vertical slats on the plastic cladding and a faux silver skid plate.

It has a Y-shaped brake light configuration, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a dual-tone bumper design in the back. The Punch EV features new 16-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes on all four wheels, as opposed to the ICE Punch, which has drum brakes in the rear. It’s also the first Tata EV with a frunk.

Tata Punch EV Battery and Range

Tata has presented the all-new acti.ev architecture on which the Punch is built, but it has yet to release precise technical specifics about the Punch EV. What we do know is that there will be two types available: Standard and Long Range, with 25kWh and 35kWh battery packs, respectively. The former only receives a 3.3kW AC charger, whilst the latter also receives a 7.2kW AC charger. It is also capable of supporting DC rapid charging.

Depending on the model and battery, this modular platform is estimated to have a range of 300km to 600km. As a result, a range of 300-400km appears plausible for the Punch EV. We’re waiting for additional information on power and torque ratings, but we do know it has multi-mode brake regeneration.

Tata Punch EV Interior and Features

The Punch EV has a layered dashboard design on the inside, with the centerpiece being the new 10.25-inch infotainment screen. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an illuminated two-spoke steering wheel taken from larger Tata SUVs are also new. Lower trim levels, on the other hand, will feature a 7.0-inch infotainment screen and a digital cluster. The Nexon EV’s jewelled rotary drive selector will be available only on Long Range models.

The top-spec Punch EV will also include a 360-degree camera, leatherette seats, an automatic parking brake with auto hold, linked car technology, a wireless charger, heated front seats, cruise control, and the new Arcade.ev app suite, in addition to all of the previously listed amenities. A sunroof is an additional option. Some of these characteristics are unique for a vehicle of this size. Six airbags, ABS and ESC are standard, as are a blind view monitor, three-point seat belts for all seats, ISOFIX mounts, and an SOS function.

Tata Punch EV Variants

The basic Punch EV comes in five trim levels: Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+, while the Long Range comes in three: Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered. Both models also come with a choice of five dual-tone color schemes.

The Tata Punch EV is a direct competitor to the Citroen eC3. It will be positioned between the Nexon EV MR and the Tiago EV MR, with pricing ranging between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 13 lakh ex-showroom.
